Southern Highlands (Woonjeegaaribay)

We are supporting Southern Highlands ( Woonjeegaribay )Wildlife Rescue who are committed to providing urgent care to a 2688 km sq ( 1038 ml sq ) area within Wingecarribee. This area is MASSIVE! Fires are still burning out of control, houses lost and the animals that survived after fires have no food, water or shelter. There is nothing left! In the last few days this shelter lost every enclosure. They have evacuated 3 times in the last week with 30+ animals in their care. Wombats, kangaroos, possums, echidnas, birds and other species are all going to starve if we don’t give them immediate care.

Please please help us, we need you. 100% of Your Donation will go directly to helping us provide:

The story behind this appeal...

The ongoing devastation of Australia's bush-fires will have continuing effects for months to years

The ongoing devastation of Australia's bush-fires will have continuing effects for months to years

The future for our country and it’s wildlife is now critical.  Michelle Bryant (founder of Future For Wildlife Australia)  with a long history of supporting and working closely with animal welfare and wildlife issues, contacted her long time friend Dr Doug English to help her with veterinary support for injured wildlife in the remote bush-fire regions which are wide spread and still continuing.

There are many genuine wildlife carers that she knows that are cut off from getting any support.

Veterinarians are swamped, often too far to help and can’t always offer ongoing medication.

Animal care and response time is currently difficult due to massive areas, accessibility and need of urgent and ongoing help.

Many privately funded wildlife rescue organisations are using their own personal money to provide immediate and appropriate care.

Outside support is desperately needed. Even with the millions pouring into our country, there is a gap that the smaller private funded wildlife carers are falling into, and some are still being given very little assistance.

Both Michelle and Doug are workaholics and available 24/7, and have their own stated agenda as announced, and will provide all administration through Doug's business free of charge.

They understand the future for our wildlife is now critical and needs immediate action.

Dr Doug is a veterinarian with a farming background of over 45 years and well connected to wildlife preservation groups. He has spent 4 months in the UK during the FMD outbreak right at the coalface in Lancashire and Yorkshire, in 2001 at the invitation of the British Government through the Australian Cattle Vets which is a group within the Australian Veterinary Association.

Michelle and Doug have set up this not for profit charity and urgently needed veterinary supplies have already been purchased and forwarded on to wildlife carers.

Objectives:

  • Transparent cash flows in and out to our PayPal account and bank account that can be monitored and audited on a daily basis to show what we actually do.
  • Fund medical supplies to carers in need.
  • Fund effective experienced veterinarians with an adequate supply of drugs, medical equipment and motor vehicle to get out ASAP and support wildlife carers on a needs basis.
  • Rebuild destroyed and inadequate wildlife sanctuaries to nurture and rehabilitate wildlife ready for future release. Possible breeding program and support for other sanctuaries doing the same. Long term plan to have a sanctuary with adequate land and water connected to an intensive care hospital at a place to be determined to best support wildlife needs.
  • Organize a mobile hospital to give immediate aid ASAP.
  • Doug has a mobile vet practice and has offered FFWA his assistance to treat animals and distribute veterinary supplies to careers in need.

Our Team at FFWA understand the future for our wildlife is now critical and needs immediate action. Looking for to your support for our wildlife.
